Caring for Our Common Home
At St. Francis, we believe that caring for the environment is a vital part of our mission and learning. We are committed to living our the Climate Action Plan across all areas of school.
Inspired by the call to protect our common home, we embed sustainability and climate awareness throughout our curriculum. Through our Kapow curriculum, pupils explore global environmental issues and take part in practical initiatives that promote stewardship of the Earth. From reducing waste to supporting biodiversity, we encourage every child to make a positive impact—because together, small actions lead to big change.
To make learning real and effective, each topic is underpinned by Big Thinking Questions that challenge pupils to reflect and act in line with our school values:
- Respect & Responsibility
How can our choices today affect the world tomorrow? - Compassion & Care
Why should we care for people and places we may never see? - Integrity & Action
What does it mean to live sustainably in our daily lives? - Community & Collaboration
How can we work together to protect our planet?
These questions help children connect learning to real-world issues, encouraging them to think deeply, act responsibly, and live out our values in practical ways.
